VISION & ROBOTICS

Flexible parts feeding that sees, selects, picks and places.

Combine controlled part presentation, industrial vision, robot handling and the receiving process in one recoverable automation cycle.

FLEXIBLE PRESENTATION

Use programmable handling where dedicated tooling becomes the constraint.

Vision-guided robotic feeding can support components that have several stable poses, require multi-axis reorientation, change frequently or need controlled placement into the next process.

The robot is only one part of the cycle. Replenishment, presentation density, image quality, accessible grasps, failed-pick recovery and safe interaction with the downstream machine determine whether the complete cell reaches production output.

CELL DESIGN

Five technical decisions drive the result.

Each must be proven with representative components and realistic cycle conditions.

01

Part presentation

Flexible trays, conveyors, step feeding or controlled bulk delivery expose components to the camera and gripper.

02

Lighting & optics

Geometry, colour, gloss, transparency and depth determine the lens, lighting, background and calibration strategy.

03

Gripper access

Neighbouring parts, pose, surface constraints and placement forces determine the available end-effector.

04

Cycle model

Acquisition, processing, robot motion, verification, placement and replenishment are modelled as one rate.

05

Recovery logic

Double picks, empty frames, dropped parts, calibration drift and downstream stops receive defined responses.

06

Safety & access

Robot reach, payload, speed, operator tasks and maintenance access determine the safeguarding architecture.

WHERE IT EARNS ITS PLACE

Flexible feeding is a project decision, not a fashion choice.

Dedicated tooling remains excellent for stable, high-volume applications. Vision and robotics add value where flexibility changes the business case.

Application conditionWhy vision / robotics may helpEvidence required
Frequent product variantsRecipes and change tooling reduce fully dedicated track requirementsComplete format matrix and changeover target
Complex orientationRobot motion can reorient through several axes before placementValid poses, grasp options and receiving datum
Integrated inspectionLocation and selected quality checks may share controlled imagingGood and reject samples with measurable criteria
Surface sensitivityContact points and return paths can be reduced or controlledNo-contact areas, finish limits and handling trials

HIGH-MIX PRODUCTION

Vision-guided feeding is one route—not the definition of flexibility.

Product variety can also be managed through controlled change parts, adjustable mechanical tooling, trays or a hybrid cell. Compare every option against the complete variant matrix, batch sizes, changeover window and required hand-off.

PROJECT ASSESSMENT

Send the part family and target cycle so the flexible-feeding case can be tested.

We will help define the right starting architecture, the evidence needed for selection and the interfaces that belong in the project scope.
